The Intel® Core i7-3900 processors launch today with 2 new models, 3930K and 3960X, both unlocked. These 2nd generation Core architecture 6-core processors are supported on the X79 chipset with a new LGA 2011 pin socket. The 3900 series processors support all the advantages of the Sandy Bridge Quad-Core 2600 parts, but now include Quad-Channel 1600MHz memory as standard and larger caches, up to 15MB !. To support these processors we have 2 new workstations models, the Magnetar® F50 and Z50. We will also have new enthusiast systems being added throughout the week.

Due to the devastating floods in Thailand, we are seeing daily price increases and limited availability on Hard Drives from all manufacturers. We are working closely with our supplies to make sure we will have sufficient Hard Drives to fulfil all current and future customer orders. However, please be aware some hard drive models have already passed a 50% increase in cost price and prices are expected to continue to rise. From today all Sandy Bridge based systems (Core i2000 series processors) are shipping with B3 revision chipsets on the motherboards, which fixes the issue with the SATA 3Gb ports. Customers who have already received Sandy Bridge platforms will now be contacted to arrange their motherboards to be swapped out.

Today Intel has launched the 510 series (Elmcrest) SSDs that offer sustained transfer rates up to 500MB/sec when connected to a SATA 6Gb interface. These are available to order with most of the systems on the site from today.

Sandy Bridge continues!
Great news for customers, is our motherboard partner Asus, has decided to continue shipping Sandy Bridge based motherboards. This means its business as usual for our Sandy Bridge based workstations and PCs.
This is how we will be handling the SATA errata in the chipset. We won't be using the 4 x on-board 3Gb SATA ports, but instead using the 2 or 4 SATA 6Gb ports thats also on these motherboards. If customers need to support more drives, then we will be providing a 2 or 4 port high performance PCI-Express SATA controller on loan.
When Asus are ready with new motherboards that contain the fixed Cougar point chipset (expected mid-April), we will arrange for our engineers to swap-out the older motherboards for you. Your warranty with us will then start afresh from the date the new motherboard is installed.

Intel has discovered a flaw in the B2 stepping of the Couger point chipset, which is used on all motherboards based on the new Sandy Bridge processors. The issue may cause performance degrading of the SATA 3Gb ports 2-6 on the motherboards over time. Its does NOT affect the 2 x 6Gb SATA ports 1 and 2.
We will be contacting all customers who have recently received or have systems currently on order over the next 2 days.

Today sees Intel announce next generation of mid-range Dual and Quad Core processors, based on the Sandy Bridge architecture. Armari has a new range of Workstations and PCs based on the processors with performance that will simply blow you away. New systems will start to go up on the site from the 9th with several reviews appearing in the press over the coming weeks.

Following in the wake of the F4e-KO, the Magnetar F3e-KO is reviewed in the latest issue of Advanced Photoshop, scoring 9/10 in another very positive review. We built a rather special configuration of the F3e-KO that really shines when running applications like Adobe CS5 and Lightroom 3, making it perfect for Professional Digital Photographers. Providing performance typical of a mid-range Dual Xeon workstation, but costing only £1674+VAT is a challenge, but its an example of how Armari is helping customers meet the challenge of reduced budgets.

Intel has now introduced a complete range of new Xeon processors that are plug compatible with existing platforms. All of our Workstations and Servers may be ordered with the new processors starting today. Many of our online systems have these processors included, with the remaining systems being updated throughout the next 2 weeks.
Customers with existing Armari Xeon 5000 systems can upgrade to the new processors with a simple BIOS update. Please call us for details.
Intel has split the Xeon 5600 range into 3 catagories, Advanced (X56xx), Standard (E56xx) and Basic (E55xx). The Advanced range now includes some exciting new 6-core models that directly replace 4-core at the same price. In multi-threaded applications we've seen performance increases of over 45% showing how well Intel's architecture is scaling.

Intel launches the 6-core Extreme Edition Core i7 980X as the ultimate processor for single socket 1366 systems. Its available on all compatible Workstations and PCs from Armari today.
With 6-cores running at 3.33GHz by default, this processor is also a great overclocker. You can expect to see around 4.2GHz on enthusiast systems with a good CPU cooler.

NVIDIA Launches Tesla C2050 (3GB) and C2070 (6GB) next generation Tesla cards based on the Fermi architecture.
With between 520-630 G/Flops of double precision floating point performance on tap and ECC protected memory, NVIDIA is set to change the future of High Performance Computing.
Customers can now place order for these cards, either individually or as part of an Armari Tesla Workstation or Armari Tesla Server solution.
Tesla C2050 & C2070 will ship in Q2/2010, but don't worry you get a Tesla C1060 to use until they arrive. In addition, customers working in Education may keep the C1060 cards after the new cards arrive.

NVIDIA unveils its next generation GPU. "Fermi" is set to revolutionise High Performance Computing. With an 512 CUDA cores and an 8x increase in floating performance, ECC error checking support and C++ & Fortran support, this 3 Billion transistor 40nm chip could well be the architecture that the next generation of world class supercomputers are built on.

Armari's latest Dual-Core ATOM 330+NVIDIA ION powered Media centre/home server is now available.
The AI-100 comes as standard with a fantastic specification including 4GB DDR2-800 memory, 802.11n Wifi and is internally expandable to 2TB of internal RAID storage. Thanks to the onboard NVIDIA ION GeForce GPU, it runs Windows 7 64bit like a dream and fully decodes HD movies in hardware. Our whole hearted congratulations go to Steve Gomez at Bandito, for winning an Emmy at this years awards in New York.
The award was for visual effects work on the National Geographic documentary Inside the Living Body.
Steve said: “The project was a real challenge. But I’ve always believed in ‘staying with the problem’. I believe that tenacity is what won us the award.”
Steve and Bandito visual effects have been a long standing Armari customer since the mid 1990’s, using Armari workstations, servers and render farms in their productions. We work closely with our customers and know just how hard Steve worked on this project, which is why we’re so happy he’s been rewarded for all his efforts.
