Intel's' Core i7 processor launched late last year and provided desktop users with a significant boost in performance. Now Intel is doing the same for Workstation users. Based on the fundamental same technology as Core i7, the Xeon 55/56 series of processors, extends to support dual socket professional workstations, bringing up to 8 and 12-Cores and up 16 and 24-theads of execution to bare on some models. This new workstation platform offers a massive boost in memory performance, thanks to an integrated high speed memory controller and triple channel 800MHz-1333MHz DDR3 memory support (speed depends on processor model). You can be confident not only in the performance, but the stability of the i55 workstation as it uses an Intel designed and manufactured motherboard and chassis. With a 1KW low noise PSU, its able to support up to 2 professional PCI Express 3D accelerators and 6 internal 3.5" drives. An optional hot-swap drive cage and rail kit for rack mounting is also available.
